**"CARUTH ALEXANDER RESPONDED SUNDAY JULY 11TH WITH THE FOLLOWING
STATEMENT:"**
"The belief that I can control all aspects of my own being if I only have
the will power to do so was an arrogant idea that in recent years has nearly led
me to lose my physical life as well as my soul. Through this life long
belief that only by my own strength and works could I be delivered up from
misery into happiness, I was entangled in a slow vicious cycle of failure and
frustration. Each failure brought me a little lower until my life
eventually became unmanageable. I finally lost all control, including my
powers of personal choice. Despite my sincerest efforts to regain it, all
attempts at control through human means were dismal failures, serving only to
feed my fear and frustration.
"Yet God, in His own time, saw fit to give me a second chance through the
realization that my powers were inadequate to control anything beyond my own
beliefs. He allowed me to see that the only path away from death was to be
fully honest in admitting my powerlessness, to turn my life and my will over to
Him, and to seek a renewed spiritual bond directly with Him. It is by His
power and His grace that I am alive, recovering, and here with you today.
"I come before you to ask the forgiveness of any I have offended and to
thank you for your continuing support. And most importantly to bear
witness to the futility of our human will power and to what God can and will do
when He is sought. I ask your prayers that with each day I may continue to
make spiritual progress that will bear witness of His power to others and
through which I may be an asset to this congregation."
Your elders have met with Caruth and discussed with him the various
problems Caruth has had over the past several years. We were very grateful
for his frankness and openness.
The hand of God has been and is evident in this response. The staff
and elders are confident that Caruth has redirected his life.

**Youth
News**
It's here! It's finally here! Don't get me wrong. I have loved all of
our previous experiences this summer. We've been blessed because of Green Valley
Bible Camp, Uplift, Splashdown, etc.; but there's nothing quite like Vacation
Bible School. It's simply one of my favorite weeks of the entire
year.
Not everyone is able to go to camp and not everyone likes to
travel away from home, especially our younger children. That's what's great
about VBS. It's right here in our own back yard. It involves people of all ages.
And we all learn so much from working together as a team to make this a great
week for the kids of our church and community.
If you don't already
know, VBS will take place next week, July 19-22 from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. each
day. It will conclude with a big night together on Thursday, July 22.
Parents, if you can't come visit or participate in VBS as a volunteer
during the week, Thursday night will be your chance to come see what your kids
have been doing all week. We will give you the specific details about Thursday
night in the coming days.
Our theme for this year is "His Last
Week." We will have daily plays on "The Triumphal Entry, The Last Supper, The
Garden of Gethsemane, The Cross and The Resurrection." There's nothing better we
could possibly teach our children than the story of what Christ has done for
each of us.
I want to thank all of you ahead of time for your
donations, your time and your support of VBS. Plan to join us this Sunday
morning during the 10:30 worship service as we focus on what God has to say to
each of us about what we can learn from our children.
