**Community Outreach Day**
This week at VBS we have planted the seed of the
kingdom throughout the community. This congregation demonstrated a
Christ-like spirit as children were brought to Jesus. Next week we have
another opportunity to sow seeds and bring families to Jesus. Saturday,
July 30, is Community Outreach Day.
The preparation for Community Outreach Day has been
extensive. The final phase of the preparation begins on Wednesday night,
July 27 at 8:00 p.m. in the (FLC) Family Life Center. We invite
everyone at West-Ark to find a way to get involved in the final preparation and
the event itself. We need volunteers who want to help move items from the
storage unit at Fort Chaffee to the FLC. We also need volunteers to
help sort items and arrange them for the Outreach Day event. A
full schedule of the prep work and the event is posted in the information center
and on-line in the members section.
The purpose of Community Outreach Day is to
share clothing and household items with those who are in need. We
give these items away for free to those families who come to the FLC between
9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. This year we will ask people to fill out a simple
registration card so that we may contact them later. Volunteers to
help with the registration on Saturday are welcomed.
There
will be publicity through area newspapers and television leading up to this
event. We have the opportunity to create a positive example of
Christ-like service. Our objective is to glorify Christ and demonstrate
that we take seriously Christ's charge to serve others (John 13:15).
We are doing a good work when we share our material goods with those who are in
need (Acts 2:44-45), but even more importantly we are demonstrating the value of
living life together God's way (Acts 2:47).
Let's all
commit to praying for this event! Let's pray that it serves God's mission
to our community! Let's pray that we will be faithful witnesses to
the gospel of Jesus Christ through our words and deeds!

**Update on Maria**
As previously reported,
benevolence funds contributed for Nigeria recently assisted Maria, sister to the
blind evangelist, Fredrick Ofutu, with her hospital expenses for breast cancer
surgery. Additional funds were sent to help with needed chemotherapy
treatment. Unfortunately, her cancer tumors have reoccurred. She has had
additional surgery at Nigerian Christian Hospital. On Monday of this week,
Jerry Canfield received telephone calls from Fredrick who, although being blind,
traveled by public transportation across Nigeria with Maria to Ibadan (a large
western Nigerian city with modern medical facilities). In order to obtain
chemotherapy treatment, Maria needs $1500. She is staying with a member of the
Church until she has the funds to be admitted for treatment. Her two minor
children are with Maria's husband and family in eastern Nigeria. If you
can help with the expenses, please discuss with Jerry Canfield.
