**Sunday AM Classes for January - March 2011**

 

“Radical Love: Hearing Jesus’ Call to Be His Disciples”  (Meets in Room 211 - Begins Jan. 9) - How do we put the Lord’s teaching into practice?  What difference could it make in our lives and in the world today?  This class will focus on scriptural teaching about discipleship and borrow material from two current titles: “Crazy Love” by Francis Chan and “Radical” by David Platt.  Class Leaders: Ted Knight and Bob Null.

“Altar in the World” (Meets in Room 210 - Begins Jan. 2) - How should we “be the church” everywhere we go?  Can everyday and mundane tasks really become spiritual disciplines?  Class members will be encouraged to grow in their faith and practice through study of Scripture and practical exercises of faith in everyday settings.  Class Leader: Shane Hughes.

“The Life of Christ” (Meets in Annex Conference Room) - How can we live like Jesus?  The focus of this class is to look at how Jesus acted.  Emphasis will be placed on how we can act more like the example of Jesus Christ.  Class Leaders: Phil Burns and David Burns.

“1 Samuel” (Meets in Room 215) - Beginning in January, a study of the history, culture, geography and message of 1 Samuel.  Class Leader: Bob Fisher

“Proverbs” (Meets in Room 203) - Continuing a study of the wisdom and message of the Proverbs.  Class Leader: Bruce Davenport

“The Gospel of Mark” (Meets in Library) - The second part of a study on the four gospels.  Participants read the text and engage in discussion about the teaching and message of Mark.  Class Leader: Bill Dickey

“Acts” (Meets in Room 100) - Beginning a new textual study of Luke’s second book, the Acts of the Apostles.  Class Leader: Kevin Roberts

“2 Timothy” (Meets in Room 106) - Beginning a new textual study of Paul’s second letter to Timothy.  Class Leader: Jerry Canfield

“Revelation” (Meets in Auditorium) – Who says that Revelation is hard to understand?  Not us! Continuing multimedia lessons of the message and meaning of the last book of the Bible.  Class Leader: Gary Brown.

**In Our Thoughts & Prayers**

• Allen Mobley, Christy Puckett’s cousin, is being treated for a rash and therapy is temporarily halted.

• Arenda Yancey requests prayers for her mother’s comfort as she faces her last weeks.

• Bertie Prigge, Louise Howard’s sister, is home and doing very well after knee replacement surgery.

• Phillip White’s back is healing but his white blood cell count is still very low. 

• Ana Seglem’s sister, Martha, has been diagnosed with end stage cancer.

• James Scholle, father of Daveina Scholle and Sherissa Hubbs, has been diagnosed with cancer.

• Joe Ragsdale, Becky Grist’s brother-in-law, is still suffering from kidney stones.

 

**Bereaved in Prayer**

Our love and sympathy is extended to Doris Robertson and Claretta Bartlett in the death of their sister, Betty Bernard.  Services were December 29 at Lewis Funeral Home.

Rod & Terri Jones are the proud grandparents of Abigail Grace, who was born December 13 to Michael and Beth Jones.  Abigail weighed 6 lbs. 13 ozs. and was 21” long.  Congratulations to all the family!

**Youth Group/news**

WAYG Class – Sunday, January 2, 9:30-10:30 AM

Don’t miss the High School class, taught by John Carson and Kent Snider, teaching based on the book, “The Barbarian Way” and the Jr. High class, taught by Brad Moore and Joe Morgan, teaching based on the book, “Be The Wave.”  Both resources are excellent and use lots of Biblical principles and material to help in spiritual growth. Bring your Bible and get ready for these great classes!

 

The Journey – Wednesday, January 5, 7-8 PM

Don’t miss out as we lift our praises to God and share a message from His Word.  Bring a Bible and bring a friend!  We’ll continue our study of Moses on his journey, in answering God’s call.

MidSouth Girls Conference –  January 28-29, 2011

Applications were handed out last Wednesday night and have been emailed out (and are available in the hanging files next to the Youth Group bulletin board in the foyer). This is an awesome event for all girls Grades 7 - 12. All students and sponsors must fill one out. Due January 9.
