Benefit Chili Supper

Where did you stay last night?
Did you go to bed hungry?
Did you put on clean clothes this morning?

There are 82 people who are sleeping under the stars on any given night for varied reasons. City officials say that as many as 700 people live on the streets or stay in a shelter every night.

Arkansas children are going without food more than any other state in the country according to a new report. Nearly a quarter of Arkansas' children don't know where their next meal will come from.

**CAR CLINIC -- coming November 5th**
Mission News & Event, Blue Jeans Weekend and King's Kids
Mission News from Dr. Bob Whittaker
(Zambia, Swaziland & Tanzania)

I had a great time in Zambia, saw lots of patients and showed my PA student many medical cases she had not seen before.  The place is swamped by AIDS and as a result, there is a lot of TB. The Namwianga clinic is very nice and is run by Christians, but the wages are paid by the government. I preached six times, including three times at Sunday service and twice at the early morning devotionals at the chapel. In addition, I gave a lecture to the junior doctors in the government hospital nearby.

There is an opportunity for Annette, too, as the mission runs a number of schools, and they were interested to hear of Annette's remedial programs in math.

After five weeks, I transferred to Swaziland, meeting up with Annette in the airport at Johannesburg. There is a medical crisis so bad that Doctors Without Borders is there. They usually go only to disaster areas, but they said AIDS was so bad that they considered it an emergency.

The church has a plan to convert three large classrooms into a clinic, so we did a feasability study and made surprisingly good progress. At a final meeting with the church, they said they would go ahead and make applications to the government for permission to operate the clinic. The church hall is ideally situated in the middle of a large informal housing project where there is no medical service. Annette explored the possibility of using her remedial math materials, but they wanted her to teach the students at the Bible College.

Anyway, we are well and God has blessed our travels so far. We go on to work at a clinic for the church in the north of the country in two days.

    Your servants for Christ,
    Bob and Annette Whittaker (10.12.11)

We will continue a special series of messages about what the calling that God has given us as Christians looks like in YOUR world!  Let me encourage EVERYONE to take a break in the middle of the week... set aside the busyness of homework, extracurricular activities, etc and come join God's family and be refreshed! Bring yourself, a Bible and a friend!
