UNDERSTANDING CHRISTIANITY

We've been talking about and encouraging you to attend Bible classes as we begin this new year of coordinated study together from "God's Son Was A Servant." Hopefully, you have found a class that suits your personality, and you're attending regularly.

But this last week it occurred to me that it is entirely possible to attend a class, learn Bible study methods, memorize and meditate on Scripture and still not grow spiritually. Could it be that we attend services every week, fellowship with other Christians, learn how to pray and still miss the point of reliance upon an indwelling Christ to be all-sufficient for every need and every circumstance in our life? "Going to church," reading the Bible, and doing Bible study are where we need to begin but that's only the beginning …. It goes much deeper than that.

It's important not only to know the WHAT and HOW of Christianity, but also to understand the WHY. These are some of the things that help us tap into the indwelling life of Christ within us.

Remember what was written in Ephesians 3:8?… "Although I am less than the least of all God's people, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ."

The reason and purpose of developing certain devotions or disciplines is to experience the unfathomable riches of Christ in a more intimate way than we ever have before. One way for this to happen is by building relationships with others in the Body of Christ as we encourage one another daily. In the book of Acts, the earliest mention of the church shows them meeting both as a large congregation in the temple courts and in small groups in their homes (Acts 2:42-47). Beginning Wednesday night February 2nd, I will be leading a class that will train individuals to lead a group for our Small Group Ministry. Men, women, individuals and couples are encouraged to attend. See Ted Edwards, Joe Pistole, or Ron Lenderman for more information.

See you in Bible class soon!!!
