MISSION: AWESOME!

Forty-nine people came together June 3-11, 2000, to form the West-Ark Guyana Medical Mission Team. A huge "thank you" to all who helped send the West-Ark Mission Team to Guyana for the 10th consecutive year. I feel privileged and extremely blessed to have participated in this great mission work for the last two years.

As I reflect upon the experience of this past week, one word keeps coming back to my mind, "AWESOME!" There are several reasons why I believe that "AWESOME!" is an appropriate word to describe the week in Guyana. First of all, we serve an awesome God! There is no end to His great love, mercy and faithfulness. Another reason why "AWESOME!" characterizes our week in Guyana is because of the many ways He used 49 ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary tasks. It was so incredible to interact with the Guyanese people and have the opportunity to share Jesus with them. The total number of patients in the medical clinic that we saw for the week was 1786. Every one of these precious people were offered the opportunity to have a Bible Study and almost everyone was open to hearing the message of Jesus. The Lord blessed our effort with 64 individuals obeying the Gospel as they were baptized into Christ.

The Guyana Medical Mission experience reminds me of 1 Corinthians 3:5-9. In that context, Paul said, "I planted the seed," but then quickly added, "Apollos watered it, but God made it grow."

All of us on this mission team are simply servants with different temperaments coming together to use our God-given talents to serve people. Apart from God, we couldn't produce any spiritual results, but working together with God we were able to be a part of the whole process of growth as the borders to the Kingdom were expanded. TO GOD BE THE GLORY because this is all from Him and because of Him.

If you want to know more about the sights, sounds and experiences of our 2000 Guyana Mission Trip, plan to be present this Sunday Night, June 18, at 6 p.m. during our regular assembly. Several men from the team will share their thoughts and we'll also show pictures along with a short video presentation.

See you in Bible Class soon!
