RECOGNIZING POTENTIAL

Jesus chose the Twelve to be by His side during His three-year ministry on earth. He hand-picked these men not because of who they were, but because of who they could become. The Lord saw the potential that the Twelve had even when it was not readily apparent to anyone else.

Did the Twelve have problems and difficult hurdles to overcome? YES! But Jesus prepared them, little by little, to overcome the obstacles. He gave them bite-size answers so that they would not be overwhelmed by the enormous problems that they faced. Jesus knew just how much to reveal to them so that they could consume and digest the answer. There were times when He would say, "You don't understand it now, but later it will all come together to make sense."

Teachers, there are some similarities to how Jesus trained the Twelve and to what our task consists of in the Bible classroom. There is no way that we can fix all the problems in the world around us - God has never called us to do that nor does He expect us to try to set the world straight. But He has called us to help those in our Bible classes better understand His will for their life.

How do we do that? It is accomplished little by little with the small tasks that are set before us. We can build character in our students by the biblical instruction that we share and by our example that we set. Regardless of the grade or age, from nursery through adult, Bible Class teachers have the ability to make a difference in their students' lives. Teresa of Calcutta once said, "We can do no great things - only small things with great love."

If you are ready and willing to make an eternal difference in the lives of other's … there is a place for you to serve in our Education Ministry.

See you in Bible Class soon!
