Can you even imagine why the disciples would want to prevent the children
from coming to Jesus? Maybe they wanted to protect His privacy or shield Him
from needless interruptions. But they again showed their lack of spiritual
sensitivity.
Jesus wanted children to come to Him and not to be hindered in their coming.
The simple truth is that children in their receptivity and dependence
exemplify the characteristics of those who possess God's kingdom.
During the week of July 10-14, 2000, we held our VBS at West-Ark and the
children came. This Sunday Night we have set aside time during our 6:00 p.m.
assembly to share with the Church some good news about how God blessed our
efforts and allowed us to have a great week.
Make plans to worship with us this Sunday at 6:00 p.m. for our brief time
together at the West-Ark building, and then we'll all head over to Mat & Jo
Griffin's for the Annual Griffin Ice Cream Supper.
See you in Bible Class soon!
People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but
the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said
to them, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for
the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone
who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter
it." And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and
blessed them."
~~ Mark 10:13-16
During that time it was customary to bring children to great men to have
them blessed. As the mothers, fathers, and even the brothers and sisters
brought the children to Jesus, it was obvious that the Lord loved and cared
for all children. These small children did not bother Jesus as evidenced by
the Lord holding them in His arms.
