JESUS' TRUE FAMILY

Then Jesus looked at those seated in a circle around him and said, "Here are my mother and my brothers! Whoever does God's will is my brother and sister and mother."   (Mark 3:34-35)

In these verses, with one sweep of his eyes over those seated in a circle around him (including his disciples), Jesus identified his true family. Those who had responded to his call to be with him were spiritually far closer than blood relatives. Jesus' true family includes all who obey the will of God. Though many listening to Jesus at that time had broken family relations and were being persecuted, they had an intimate relationship with the Son of God.

Christ showed us how much we need each other as brothers and sisters in Christ -- family to each other. The Scriptures reveal God's grand design for community - a relationship built with Him and among those who bear His image.

If you're feeling alone or maybe feeling disconnected from your brothers and sisters at West-Ark, then maybe you can relate to what one West-Ark member stated not too long ago, "I feel that it is difficult to get to know people on a personal level in a large congregation. I need a friend with whom I can share my struggles and who will pray for me and with me."

West-Ark's Small Group Ministry is a place for us to meet one another's needs on a personal level. It's all about family, a place to love and be loved, strengthening and supporting one another as we reach out to others. These small groups meet one night a week in a casual setting and allow us to get to know each other better. Each member is cared for, nurtured, and encouraged, as we grow closer to God.

If you'd like to visit one of the groups, check out the new Small Group Bulletin Board in the foyer for a listing of all the groups. The names and phone numbers of the leaders are listed, so be sure and call to get the current information as to where the group is meeting. Also, if you would simply like more information about the groups, call Ron Lenderman, Joe Pistole or Ted Edwards. Either one of us will be able to help you find just the right group.

It's hard for most of us to feel part of the large assembly. It is especially hard to feel a part of things if you are a brand new member or have recently moved into the area. The smaller groups give everyone a place to connect immediately. There is a place for you in West-Ark's Small Group Ministry.

See you in Bible Class!
