MISSION MINDED

When the nation of Israel was preparing to enter the Promised Land, God told them to remember all that He had done for them so that they would not quickly forget Him and turn to serve other gods. But Israel did forget to honor God and worship Him. So God allowed Israel to go through different types of adversity in order to call them back to Himself. Israel would need to be reminded quite often of all God had done so that they would remember their dependence upon Him and Him alone, for ALL things.

As the years go by, there are times when we become complacent in our faith and begin to forget all that the Lord has done for us. For most of us there comes a time when the initial "WOW" of our salvation wears off. Consider the fact that if God did nothing more than redeem us and save us from sin and hell, we would need an eternity to thank Him. Think about it … If He hadn't stepped into our lives -- we would be LOST! Church, we can easily forget that at one time we were destined for an eternity away from Him!

I am grateful for the opportunity to serve at West-Ark because this is a congregation with a mission-minded world view. We are not only concerned with what's happening in our own backyard -- but we're also thinking about how we can touch others around the world with God's love.

Jesus has told us in Matthew 9:37-38 to pray for workers for the harvest. There is a big possibility that you are part of the answer to that prayer. Plan now to take part in West-Ark's upcoming mission weekend Friday night through Sunday.

If you've ever had a longing to go on a foreign mission trip, but for some reason you just haven't been able to follow through with your desire, take heart because God has something special planned for you in June, 2001. West-Ark will send another mission team to Guyana for the eleventh consecutive year, and there is a place for you to serve. The first planning meeting is this Sunday, November 12th at 7:00 p.m. in Room 100. Whether you've been to Guyana the past 10 years or it'll be your first experience, please make this meeting a priority. If you can't make the meeting this Sunday, but you would like more details … see Michael Cole or just ask me, and I'll try to help.

Don't forget that this Sunday morning all adult Bible classes will meet in the auditorium for a combined class regarding missions. See you in Bible Class!
