Although our VBS is now history for another year at West-Ark, I need to let
you know that it was indeed another successful Vacation Bible School. It was
successful for several different reasons.
First of all, VBS came together so smoothly because of the diligent effort
that Carolyn Harrell and Dena Jenkins put into it. Although none of us will
ever know the countless hours they spent planning and preparing, I'm sure
you'll agree with me that it was well worth it.
Secondly, without the many men and women who volunteered their time for VBS
it could never have been a reality. There is no way to list all the names of
people who served in so many ways for our VBS. But I will say a "HUGE
THANK-YOU!" to everyone who had any part at all in VBS. Thanks to those who
taught classes or who assisted in the classroom. Also to those who worked
as craft teachers and helpers. I appreciate everyone who served as a guide,
an actor, or a gopher, and to those who provided our goodies for the Café
and the women who served us every morning. There were also lots of
behind-the-scenes people who worked the advertising and registration and others who
provided costumes and backdrops for the various classrooms and plays.
Thirdly, our VBS was a success because the children who attended learned
everlasting truths from His Word that will stay with them for a lifetime.
Our theme of "The Good News Network" proved to be an excellent way to study
about the early Church from the book of Acts. There were many applications
made as to how God wants us to live and behave today in His Church. Our
average attendance for the week was around 185 kids per day. Almost half of
that number were visitors from the community -- friends that the kids would
bring with them and also 42 kids came from the Cedarville Day Care Center.
I'd say that we were successful in our outreach, what do you think?
Fourthly, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the canned goods and food that
the children brought diligently every day. The boys and girls had a daily
contest to see who could out do the other. By the end of the week the girls
had overwhelmingly won the contest. So now our food pantry is well stocked,
and this food will go a long way as we provide help for those in need.
And then, last but not least, thank-you to the parents and grandparents who
encouraged the kids to come and then brought them to the building every day.
The children have many precious memories to look back on because of everyone
who participated to make West-Ark's VBS 2001 a HUGE success!
At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Who is the greatest
in the kingdom of heaven?"
He called a little child and had him stand among them. And He said: "I tell
you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will
never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like
this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 18:1-4.)
See you in Bible Class!
