Several years ago, Jim Carey starred in a movie entitled, "The Truman Show."
Everything Truman (Jim Carey) says, does or thinks is broadcast live to the
entire world 24/7. The hidden cameras are everywhere, capturing scenes from
Truman's everyday life. Nothing outrageous, sensational, or lurid ... just
day-to-day activities with Truman in his surroundings. Everyone else knows
Truman's every move is broadcast live via satellite, but Truman doesn't have
a clue. I walked away from that movie thinking, "What if every word and deed
of mine were broadcast live for the entire world to view, would I be
embarrassed or could I hold my head up with nothing to hide?" There aren't
many people, frankly, who would like to have a camera capturing everything
they do 24/7.
Actually, there is such a "camera" in your life at all times. Psalm 139
states, O Lord, You have searched me and You know me. You know when I sit
and when I rise; You perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going
out and my lying down. Then the sobering bottom line: You are familiar with
all my ways. David learned that there is nothing we do that is missed -or
forgotten- by God.
Solomon put it this way in Proverbs 5:21, A man's ways are in full view of
the Lord. It is obvious that God knows everything about you and me. Some
of the most liberating words in the world are these -- nothing to hide. It
is great to be able to live in such a way that it doesn't matter what
someone overhears, films, tapes, discovers; to live without worrying about
what's coming up behind you in your rear view mirror. This is freedom!
It is extremely sobering to face the fact that God's eternal judgment is
going to be based on His total knowledge of everything we've ever thought,
ever said, ever done. But, thank God, there is a way to have that "tell all"
film destroyed once and for all. Imagine being free of that guilt, of that
shame, of the eternal punishment that sin calls for ... of knowing that
the gates of heaven will be flung wide open for you when you die. It will
happen if you will totally surrender your life to Jesus and obey Him with
all your heart. God's wonderful promise to everyone who has been to Jesus'
cross to have their sins forever forgiven -- I will forgive their wickedness
and I will remember their sins no more (Hebrews 8:12). And then in Romans
4:7-8 we find this, Blessed are they whose transgressions are forgiven,
whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never
count against him. If you want God to forgive and forget every sin you've
ever done, take it all to the cross today.
If God's all-knowing picture of your sin is there when you die, there is no
way He can let you into His heaven. But that picture can be destroyed
today - if you reach out to Jesus and trust Him to be your Lord and Savior.
To think that Jesus absorbed all the guilt and all the hell of all those
sins when He died on the cross - that is overwhelming love. He waits right
now to pour out that love on you. But ultimately, it's all up to you and the
decision is yours... Are you ready? ... Smile ... Because you're being recorded
on "God's Camera."
