We live in uncertain times. Everyday as I watch the news and read the paper
I wonder, "What's next?" Some people have arrived at a place where they
simply expect the unexpected and then regardless of how the events of the
day unfold, they are not surprised.
Our lives are constantly marked with unexpected twists and turns that no one
could accurately predict. And yet, while the circumstances of the day
sometimes change from moment to moment unpredictably ... this much is true -
Nothing escapes the notice of our God. Because we have limited vision with
our human eyes, there are times when we think that the situation is so far
out of control that we even wonder, "Where is God during all of this?"
So where was God on September 11? He was right there with them (and us) as
the events of the day unfolded. It is good for us to remember that when God
came to this earth in the flesh the Scripture calls Him Immanuel - "God with
us."
Where is God when we experience the painful trials of life? He is with us.
When tragedy strikes home and effects our family, God is right by our
side -- with us every step of the way. He has promised us that He will never
leave us nor forsake us. Not only is He aware of our circumstances, but He
is still in control of the universe. The Sunday School song, He's Got the
Whole World in His Hands, still rings true after all these years.
Psalm 11:4-7 states, "The Lord is in His holy temple; the Lord is on His
heavenly throne. He observes the sons of men; His eyes examine them. The
Lord examines the righteous, but the wicked and those who love violence His
soul hates. On the wicked He will rain fiery coals and burning sulfur; a
scorching wind will be their lot. For the Lord is righteous, He loves
justice; upright men will see His face."
We need to look beyond our circumstances, raising our eyes to heaven in order
to see the Lord. God is "holy," and from His throne in heaven He sees it
all. He patiently observes our feverish activities (the wicked together with
the righteous). Even though it may seem as if God, by His inactivity, does
not care. "Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything
is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give
account."
Regardless of what you and I have experienced in the past, or are going
through today or will face tomorrow --- God is still our solid rock that we
stand on. For this, I am thankful.
See you in Bible Class!
