THE NEEDS OF CHILDREN

Every once in a while it happens... and when it does I’m always thankful because it helps keep my priorities in line with Jesus' priorities. It’ll happen when I least expect it, but yet, when I need it the most. I’m wondering, "Has it ever happened to you?"

I’ll be smack dab in the middle of a project ... when I’m interrupted by one of my children with, "Dad, Dad I need your help, please." My first thought is that I’m busy with more important things at the moment and the kids can wait. But then I ask myself, "What could be more important than the needs of children?"

At these times we need to be reminded of Matthew 19:13-14, "Then little children were brought to Jesus for Him to place His hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked those who brought them. Jesus said, 'Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.'"

Jesus was in the midst of a busy day with a full schedule meeting with bigshots of the "religious world" concerning issues of the day. He was interrupted by children. The disciples tried to brush the children off because, after all, Jesus was ministering to important people.

But Jesus had a radical view of who the VIP’s in the world are. Since the Lord knew the children needed His attention, He dropped everything for the moment and focused on those kids. Should we do any less? Children don’t have money or influence to give you .... but they matter to Jesus and they should matter to us.

Do you have children in your home that interrupt your daily routine? Maybe a child or some children in your world have become a nuisance to you, an interruption, or a problem. Then you have an incredible opportunity to put the project or task at hand on hold temporarily and put that child in the middle of everything so that you can impact his life positively for Jesus.

Have you noticed the children we are blessed to have at West-Ark? As a church, we need to focus on the children and the young people since it has been said that three-fourths of the people who ever become Christians do it by the time they turn 18. We don’t have anything more important to do than reach these kids for Christ. Please don’t let it ever be said of you that you pushed the children’s needs to the back of your agenda so that you could minister to the more "important people" … the adults.
