PREPARING FOR LIFE

"People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God -- having a form of godliness but denying its power."

Although the above can easily describe individuals you and I know, it was actually written almost 2000 years ago and recorded in 2 Timothy 3:2-5. The world and the people in it continue to spiral downward from bad to worse just like the Scripture said would happen (2 Tim. 3:13). If you don't understand what I'm saying, simply read a local newspaper or watch a newscast on TV, and it will soon become apparent. While all this happens around us, let's keep in mind that the needs of children have never been greater than they are today.

Our children attend classes at school for about 7 hours a day for 12 years to be taught the basic skills in order to be successful and meet the challenges of this world. And yet, if we prepare them intellectually to be successful and neglect the spiritual - can we really say that we adequately prepared them for life? How successful have we been in raising our children if at the end of life's journey they don't make it to heaven?

In Deuteronomy 6, Moses commands the Israelites to instruct their children about God in everyday circumstances, with a view toward raising kids who will follow God's way and continue to tell others about Him. Scripture assigns great value to children (Psalm 127:3), and Jesus saw kids as the heritage and hope of the Kingdom of God (Matthew 19:13-15).

At West-Ark, we offer Bible Classes for all ages, from infant through adult, because we never outgrow our need to learn more about God's Word and how it relates to our daily life. I continually thank God for the loving, caring, concerned, committed adults who teach and communicate God's Word in classes week after week. If you love the Lord and desire to teach others about Him … there is a place for you in our Education Ministry -- just ask me how you can become involved.

If you're not attending Bible Classes on a regular basis, isn't it time to begin?

See you in Bible Class this week!!
