VOLUNTEER TEACHERS

Attention Adults and Teens of all Ages! We need tons of volunteers to serve in lots of ways for VBS! No experience needed; we’ll take you just as you are. See Dena Jenkins, Brad Pistole or Ted Edwards for more info.

By the way, do you know who makes up the largest volunteer force in North America? It’s Bible Class Teachers. Yes, really… I’m told that there are more than 4 million teachers who volunteer their time every week in an effort to present God’s Word in an understandable way to over 30 million students. There is no other organization that has that many weekly volunteers. This teaching is done by dedicated volunteers who are committed to helping others catch a glimpse of what God is like and how Jesus can have an eternal impact on their lives.

I am continually grateful for our Bible Class teachers at West-Ark and all they do from week to week as they teach us about Jesus. While it’s true that our Bible Classes are a place where people learn about God’s Word - these classes were never meant to take the place of parental responsibility. From the beginning, religious education has always been the responsibility of the parents. This mandate is summed up by Moses as he speaks to God’s people in Deuteronomy 6:1-9, "These are the commands, decrees and laws the LORD your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the LORD your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life. Hear, O Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the LORD, the God of your fathers, promised you..

Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates."

Moms and Dads, let’s continue to bring our children to Bible Classes on Sundays and Wednesdays… but let’s never forget to talk about, teach and model God’s Word in our homes. See you in Bible Class this week!
