BIBLICAL VERACITY

This past Tuesday comedian and talk show host Roseanne was in Jerusalem touring historic sites of the Holy Land. At one point during the day she gave reporters a glimpse of her highly personal brand of Judaism when she said, "The Bible is very funny … it’s like one great sitcom."

Entertainers from television and movies have their agendas. The media has a purpose behind all productions which has nothing to do with the Lord God and His purposes. When I saw the much-hyped network movie "Noah's Ark" a few weeks ago, I thought … "What a farce as far as presenting a Biblical account!" It was ridiculous as far as believability goes -- with little Biblical accuracy. It was as if the movie producers were trying to see how preposterous they could make the story of Noah as they tried to further undermine the veracity of the Bible. Needless to say, I couldn’t stomach watching the entire movie.

Although I’ve never thought of the Bible as a funny sitcom, apparently some people do. Never in my wildest imagination would it occur to me to think that while Noah was in the ark, as the world was flooded, he had a hostile encounter with a band of pirates spearheaded by Lot.

You see, I still believe that, "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."

I still believe that, "For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account."

The Bible is not some sort of a sitcom or fairytale. It is God’s direct revelation to us. How important is God’s Word in your life? We have Bible Classes for all ages on Sundays and Wednesdays … will you be in Bible Class this week?
