GROWING IN CHRIST

Have you ever looked back on your life’s journey and wondered, "Where have the years gone?" From time to time as you reflect on where you’ve been and where you’re headed … let me encourage you to consider your spiritual growth. Scripture continually instructs us to "grow up in Christ." This is not a one time event but rather it is a lifelong journey.

We’re not called to simply come to Jesus and then go along on our merry way. God's call is not for just a "quick tour" but for an "eternal relationship/adventure" toward growth with and in Jesus. After an individual becomes a Christian, I believe that there is no limit to our spiritual growth. Once our journey has begun, we need to remember that the time we have on this earth is too short for us to simply sign up for a short term hitch.

Most of us would agree that this is true, but how many of us have a spiritual exercise plan? Consider Hebrews 5:13-14, "Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil."

These verses show us that maturity comes about when we’re personally involved in spiritual training exercises. So what’s involved in this training for spiritual growth? It will vary from person to person. It will certainly include these elements although it’s not limited to: Regular Bible Study, a continuous prayer life, consistently meeting with the Family of God to worship Him and encourage one another, and faithfully using the talents God has given you to serve Him and others around you.

It might be summed up by saying that we’ll grow spiritually in direct proportion to our daily walk with the Father. The sad reality is that while many start out to follow Him … the road that leads to eternal life is narrow and the gate is small. Jesus didn't ask a single one of us "Can you commit to following me for a minimum period of X-months/years?" He has called us to a life time trip that we can’t afford to miss.

Will you join me as together we look forward with great anticipation for God to accomplish great things through His people at West-Ark?

See you in Bible Class this week!!!
