CHRISTIAN PROGRESS

"But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen." -- 2 Peter 3:18

Scripture is continually exhorting us to grow in Christ. The Apostle Peter possessed an obvious love and concern for Christians as he told them about the necessity for progress in Christian living. If Christians do not keep moving forward, they will regress or fall back. In this life, we will never attain all there is in Christ; so our goal should be to know Christ in a fuller, more intimate way. You can also see this in Paul’s writings -- like in Philippians 3:10-13 and Ephesians 1:17.

Physical and spiritual growth both begin as we grow from the inside out. We need spiritual food and exercise in order for us to develop into the Christian men and women that God intends us to be. As we grow in grace we become more like Jesus. The challenge in 2 Peter 3:18 is not simply to grow in our knowledge of the Bible, but rather to grow in our knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus!!! The better we know Jesus through our study of the Scriptures, the more we’ll grow in grace. The more we grow in grace, the better we’ll understand and practice what we’re learning from the Word of God. Attending Bible classes regularly certainly plays a huge role in our spiritual growth.

Beginning in January 2000, all of our Sunday Morning Adult Bible Classes will be studying the same material. David Chadwell and I are working together to build the class outlines and notes for this coordinated emphasis in Adult Education Ministry. The study will help us in our pursuit to know Christ better and more intimately. The topics throughout the four quarters will be … "Serving: The Heart of Christian Existence" - Part 1 & Part 2; "Surrendering To God"; "Faithful Stewards of God."

David and I would like to meet with all interested Adult Class teachers on Sunday, October 17 at 4:30 p.m. All current teachers, teacher assistants and those interested in teaching during this series of lessons for 2000 are invited to this very important meeting. See David or Ted with any questions you might have.

See you in Bible Class soon!
