Members of churches of Christ believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and should be our only source of religious direction. The Bible teaches us that God granted to Jesus Christ complete authority in all religious matters after He was raised from the dead (Matthew 28:18). Jesus placed that authority into His spoken Word, which will judge us in the end (John 12:48; Revelation 20:12-13). He passed that Word along to the apostles by the Holy Spirit (John 17:8; 14:25-26). They wrote it down, preserving it for us in the New Testament (Ephesians 3:3-5; I Peter 1:23).Though God has made Himself known to us in nature, it is only through a study of His written Word, the Bible, that we can discover what His will is for our lives (Psalm 19:1; II Timothy 3:16-17).
