Fruit of the Spirit

Lesson Outline

Scriptures:  Galatians 5:16-26

Workshops to be used: www.GATEWAY.com

Objectives:

  1. Students will remember the attributes of the fruit of the Spirit.
  2. Students will understand what each attribute of the fruit of the Spirit means.
  3. Students will know how a Christian shows the fruit of the Spirit in daily life.

Concepts:

  1. The Holy Spirit can help us control our thoughts and actions.
  2. It is important that we act the same way in everything we do. We should not act one way in our “church” life and another is our “every day” life.

Memory verse:

But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control.

                                                                                    Gal. 5: 22-23

Wednesday “extra” memory work: The Lord’s Prayer Matthew 6:9-13

Lesson order:

  1. Begin: Gather students in a semi-circle.
  2. Memory verse: Go over this rotation’s memory verse.
  3. Prayer: Ask for prayer requests. Ask one of the men to lead the class in prayer.
  4. Explanation of lesson concepts: Ask students to turn to Galatians 5:16-26. Allow them to take turns reading, starting with verse 16. Talk about the meaning of this scripture and the meaning of the words. Compare verses 19-21 to verses 22-25.
  5. Computer Activity: Explain that there will be two different activities. In the first activity, they will type how a Christian could show one of the fruit of the Spirit attributes in every day life. They will type this on KidPix3 and print it (putting their names on the back only). Then student will play crossword and word games to help them remember what each of the attributes of the fruit of the Spirit entail. Divide students on the computers that are up and running.

Student Directions:

  1. You will be given one of the attributes of the fruit of the Spirit to illustrate. Start a new slide on KidPix3. You will “add text.” Write down the name of the attribute you were given. Then write one example of how you could show this in every day life. You may illustrate this by adding stamps or pictures if you like. Print this. Your names should be written with pencil on the back.
  2. Go to the Expert software called, Crosswords and Word Games. You may choose to play Crossword, Hangman, Word Match, or Word Search. Whichever one you decide, choose the category, Fruit of the Spirit.
  3. Join the group back in a semi-circle at 10:10. You will read your attribute to the class and show your illustrations.
