Lesson Thirteen

A Review Of The Quarter

God's Son Was A Servant

Suggestion: Review each of the twelve past lessons. Write down two points from each that you found personally meaningful. Consider why each point was meaningful to you, and be able to share your why with the class. Ask the class to share their points. If people volunteer their information quickly, use some of your points as a conclusion. If no one volunteers quickly, use your points to begin discussion.

How has this quarter helped you understand Jesus as God's servant?

Answer the question and be prepared to share your answer. Share as personally as you can.

A synopsis of the quarter's focus:

  1. Jesus would fulfill God's purposes by being a servant.

  2. Being God's servant defined Jesus' human existence.

  3. Serving, not acquiring, was his reason for existing as a man.

  4. He modeled the behavior of a servant.

  5. He served in the attitude and behavior of genuine humility.

  6. Because he was a servant, we have salvation.

  7. Being a servant required that he empty himself.

  8. Because he served successfully, God exalted him.

  9. Even for Jesus, serving involved suffering.

  10. The injustices Jesus suffered was the model for the injustices suffered by Christian slaves.

  11. The shepherd exists to serve his sheep.

  12. Jesus was worthy because he was equal to God; heaven honored him because he served God's purposes.
