Spirit Led

I walked and talked with God one day
in the warmth of His great light.
We walked along the path of life
as the Spirit led the way.

Satan tried to set a trap.
He wanted to see me fall.
He planted seeds of fear and doubt
along the path on which we walked.

He lingered in the darkness
hoping to succeed.
He whispered to himself,
“Is this the time?
Is this the day?
How soon before they sprout?
When the seeds grow into weeds
they will grow thick along the path.
Surely then she’ll fall.”

My God and I continued
on our walk along the path.
We spoke of hope and faith
and freedom from my sins.

As the Spirit led the way
it sowed a different seed
to cover Satans weed.

We fertilized the seed with love
and Sonlight from above.
Soon it began to sprout
and grow thick along the path.

Satan came to see one day
the progress of his weed.
He whispered to himself again,
“Is this the time?
Is this the day?
How soon before she falls?”

When Satan gazed upon the path
he saw no weeds at all.
Instead the seed the Spirit sowed
had blossomed into fruit.

The fruits along the path
caused Satan great despair.
For he saw love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness, gentleness,
faithfulness, goodness
and self control.

How could his trap compare?

Satan lingered in the dark awhile
then quietly slipped away.
He whispered to himself,
“This soul is too strong for me.
She will never fall.
She walks and talks with God each day
and the Spirit leads the way.”
