Lesson Two

Anna: Luke 2:36-38
Priscilla: Acts 18:1-28; Romans 16:3-5; I Corinthians 16:19-20

        Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips, nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, so that they may train the younger women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be self-controlled, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored. (Titus 2:3-5, NAS/NIV)


Pre-study question:

  1. What comes to your mind when you think of a woman teacher?


ANNA (Same name as the OT "Hannah": gracious)

Read Luke 2:36-38

  1. What word shows that Anna was a teacher?


  2. What was her Jewish lineage:
    1. Father?


    2. Tribe?


  3. What clue is given about the length of time Anna had devoted herself in pursuing her relationship with God?


  4. From verse 37, how had Anna used her time to prepare to proclaim the Redeemer?

    1. Which verse shows the progression: recognition, thanksgiving & proclamation?


    2. How do we see this same progression in people who have found Jesus today?


PRISCILLA

Read Acts 18:1-3, 18-19, 24-28; Romans 16:3-5; I Corinthians 16:19-20

    1. How did the banishment of Jews from Rome work through Acquila and Priscilla to glorify God?


    2. Think of a time when you thought an event (move, job change, illness, etc.) was a bad thing, but God used it for good.

    1. How did Priscilla use her home for the Lord? (See Acts 18:3, 26; Romans 16:5; & I Corinthians 16:19)


    2. What extra work did this ministry place on Priscilla?


    3. What blessings came to her because of this?

    2. How can their example help in our approach to correcting erroneous teaching?

  2. List some of the good services in which widows you know participate.


  3. Read the following scriptures for more about women teachers and make notes. Matthew 28:19-20, I Corinthians 14:33-35, I Timothy 2:11-15, Titus 2:3-5
