Part Four
The Parable of the Mustard Seed
Matthew 13:31,32
- To what is the kingdom of heaven compared?
- What is done with this seed?
- What is the contrast between the size of the seed and the size of the full grown plant?
- What is the primary point of the parable?
Things to note in regard to the kingdom:
- The realities surrounding the beginning of the kingdom did not reflect the scope or the destiny of the kingdom.
- It began in a relatively small city in a very small country among a small nation of people.
- It would become a world-wide kingdom composed of all peoples throughout the world.
- In the thinking and the concepts of the first century Jewish people, this was a new concept.
- It is important to note that God never intended His kingdom to be small, or to be restricted to a few peoples, or to include small numbers.
- The growth of the mustard seed rests in the power of God, not in the labor of the farmer. While the farmer must plant the seed, he has no power to make it
grow.
