Lesson 7
Lesson Seven
Concern For Others
Text: Matthew 8:5-13
Before attending the class, read the text and think about/answer the questions.
- Explain why it was unusual for a Roman centurion (a Roman officer over 100 men) to
be concerned about a slave he owned.
- What was wrong with the centurion's slave?
- What did Jesus offer to do?
- Consider the centurion's response and answer these questions:
- What was the centurion's attitude toward Jesus?
- What did the centurion mean when he said, "I am a man under authority, with
soldiers under me"?
- What did the centurion want Jesus to do?
- Was Jesus amazed? Why?
- Comment on Jesus' statement: "I have not found such great faith with anyone in
Israel."
- What did Jesus say about "sons of the kingdom" and the many who come from the
east and the west? What does that mean?
- What did Jesus say to the centurion? What happened?
- Personal thought/reflection question: how can I deepen my willingness and desire to
trust God this year?
