BUILDING A
HEALTHY FAITH
Study Guide
by David Chadwell
Lesson Five
To place the class in my personal focus this week:
- Read Matthew 6:19-24 at least once a day.
- Find moments in the day when you can think about these verses.
- Think of specific incidents when a person trusts the "real" material rather than the "unseen" spiritual.
- Think of specific incidents when a person trusts the "unseen" spiritual rather than the "real" material.
Questions:
- Jesus' disciple will not create his or her primary source of security by doing what?
- What realization or understanding will not allow him or her to do this?
- Explain what it means to "place treasures on earth."
- What will Jesus' disciple do?
- Why will he or she do that?
- What does it mean to "place treasures in heaven"?
- How does a concern for "security" impact our understanding?
- Explain the connection between that which you most value and your true inner person. Explain the meaning of "there will be your heart."
- Explain why each of these things are thieves:
- The moth.
- Rust.
- Those who steal.
- What do they have in common?
- State some of the common forms of "blurred vision." Why does focusing one eye on the spiritual and one eye on the material create blurred vision?
- What is an impossibility? Why? How many people know this is impossible?
